Why the computer graphics in the 80's were so poor...

Here are the reasons:

• They left me in charge of all the graphics.
  
• They paid me money, not tubby toast.
  
• There were good graphics, but I ate them.
  
• A cow says moo.
  
• I stole all the good graphic power to achieve world domination.

Also, I personally think that graphics don't really count for rating of the games. It's the gameplay that matters, not the graphics. Some of the most popular games EVER had undeveloped graphics, such as Super Mario Bros. I really hate the fact that some game critics only talk about graphics in interviews sometimes.
